Acne is a disorder of the skin's sebaceous glands that affects much of the population, usually when younger, but adult acne is not uncommon and it can affect males and females.
Active acne is recognised by inflamed pustules, and sometimes, boils. This is
due to over activity of the sebaceous glands, and bacterial infection.
Pores become blocked due to excess oil and cellular debris.
There are currently many treatments for Acne. Sometimes people are
prescribed long-term antibiotics, Roaccutane but there are obviously
side-effects and severe precautions to observe.
Intense Pulsed Light has shown to have positive results with minimum skin
trauma.
A combination of intense pluses of yellow/green light destroys the bacterial
infection and infra-red light reduces the inflammation of sebaceous glands thus
limiting their activity.
This can result in long term remission from acne.
The glycolic peels also are very effective in improving the Acne skin.
They can be given independently or in conjunction with Intense Pulsed Light.
The peel exfoliates the dead skin cells that, with the sebum, block the pores
and cause the pustules.
A specific number of treatment cannot be guaranteed as acne is a complicated
condition. Most clients see a significant improvement in their skin and a
reduction in the severity and frequency of outbreaks following a course of 6
treatments.
